Update: Government proposal to end tax exemption
On September 22, 2025, the government proposed to the Finnish Parliament that the tax exemption for bicycle benefit will be discontinued. According to the government's new Income Tax Law proposal's, the bicycle tax benefit will end for employees that have committed to their orders after 24.4.2025.
The bicycle benefit itself is not being discontinued, and bicycles can still be ordered as normal. Contracts will continue, and no action is required from bicycle benefit users.
The Finnish Parliament is scheduled to vote on this legislative change in December in the framework of the income tax reform.
At present, it is not yet entirely clear how the commitment to use the bicycle benefit will be assessed.
Etufillari interprets the timing of the commitment to use the bicycle benefit as being determined by the date of sending the order confirmation.
If the proposal is approved as it has been proposed, it would affect your bicycle benefit as follows:
- If you have sent your order confirmation via myBike BEFORE April 24, 2025, your tax benefit will remain unchanged until the end of the contract period, provided that no changes are made to the contract during the contract period, or at least until five years have passed since the benefit was introduced.
- If you have sent an order confirmation on or AFTER April 24, 2025, the bicycle benefit will become taxable from 2026 onwards. If your agreement has changed or will change after April 24, 2025, the bicycle benefit may become taxable.
If your agreement has changed or will change after 24 Apr 2025, the benefit may become taxable.
Etufillari acts as a service provider offering bicycle benefit as a fringe benefit for companies. We are not, nor do we seek to be, tax, accounting, or legal advisors. This message is intended as background information for the recipient's own use. The information and views provided represent Etufillari's position at the time of publication. Users always make their own independent decisions regarding orders for bicycle benefit bikes.
We will continue to manage the employee bike benefit and accept new bike orders as before.
What happens to my agreement if the tax benefit for employee bikes is removed?
Even if the tax benefit is possibly removed, the employee bike benefit itself is not going away. It will still be possible to order new bikes, and existing agreements will continue as before.
